Sylvia is passionately dedicated to helping and healing others. She gains great satisfaction from assisting in the reduction of physical and emotional pain, stress and/or trauma, the tension of life's changes, as well as with the resolution of spiritual challenges and childhood trauma. She has worked deeply on her own issues, and her healing gifts come from having met the challenges within herself. Sylvia utilizes that knowledge, faith and gratitude in her practice. She always works with guidance.
Sylvia received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Master of Education degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State University. She completed a yearlong training in Spiritual Healing and Therapeutic Touch, is a Reiki Master as well as an ordained minister. Her ordination is through the Atlanta Church of Spiritual Healing. Sylvia has been practicing psychotherapy for sixteen years, Spiritual Healing and Therapeutic Touch for ten years and Reiki for nine years, being ninth in the lineage of Grand Master Dr. Mikao Usui. In addition to healings, Sylvia also attunes students to Levels I, II and III of Reiki.
Sylvia has worked in a variety of very challenging mental health settings, including the counseling of mentally handicapped inmates at a women's prison; with perpetrators of child sexual abuse, incest survivors, rape survivors and the elderly, as well as others suffering from grief and depression. From her years of working with chronically mentally ill clients, Sylvia found that traditional methods of psychotherapy were unable to produce rapid changes. This discovery moved her into the field of Spiritual Counseling, a process by which the practitioner helps clients to connect with God or a Higher Power, thereby enabling them to find the forgiveness and peace of mind which facilitates healing. From that vantage point, Sylvia was quite naturally drawn to the ministerial program of the Atlanta Institute of Spiritual Healing, completing the course in December 1991. She maintains a private practice in Reiki, Therapeutic Touch and Heart-Centered Psychotherapy in Charlotte, North Carolina.
